Joseph Yang

I’m a communicator, entrepreneur, community leader, and lifelong learner who believes meaningful change begins with people willing to serve their communities. Whether through media, public service, nonprofit leadership, or public speaking, my passion has always been helping people communicate ideas that strengthen communities and inspire others to become involved.

My journey into community service began at a young age through volunteering with the Chandler Public Library, where I dedicated five years of service before being elected President of the Volunteer Advisory Council. During that time, I had the privilege of receiving the Presidential Volunteer Service Award in recognition of my volunteer contributions to the State of Arizona. That experience taught me an important lesson: meaningful leadership starts with serving others before seeking to lead them. 

As my involvement grew, I became increasingly engaged in civic life throughout the City of Chandler. I served on community planning initiatives, including the city’s inaugural Asian Village Planning Committee and the Asian American Community Conference Planning Committee, helping strengthen relationships between local government and Arizona’s growing Asian American community. These opportunities gave me firsthand experience in bringing together individuals from different backgrounds to work toward common goals. 

My passion for public service eventually led me into law enforcement, where I began serving as a volunteer with the Chandler Police Department’s Operations Support Bureau. That experience developed into a deep appreciation for those who dedicate their careers to protecting their communities. After several years of volunteer service, I continued my involvement through the Citizens Police Academy Alumni Committee, serving on its executive board while later pursuing additional opportunities supporting public safety organizations. 

Professionally, I have always been drawn toward communication and entrepreneurship. I founded Yang Media with the goal of helping organizations, nonprofits, businesses, and public leaders communicate their mission with excellence through modern media, branding, photography, video production, and digital storytelling. I believe effective communication is more than marketing—it is about helping people understand ideas that matter.

That same passion for communication eventually led me into podcasting. Through my podcast, Fully Surrendered, I explore conversations surrounding faith, leadership, culture, and personal growth. My desire is to create thoughtful discussions that encourage listeners to think deeply, ask meaningful questions, and ultimately point people toward Christ. Alongside the podcast, I also write articles and educational content designed to make complex ideas accessible and practical.

My faith is the foundation that shapes every aspect of my life. As a Christian, I believe leadership is ultimately about stewardship, humility, and serving others well. Rather than viewing faith as something separate from my professional work, I see it as the lens through which I approach every opportunity, whether serving in my community, building a business, speaking publicly, or creating media.

Education has also played an important role in my journey. I am currently pursuing studies in communications with the goal of continually refining my ability to communicate effectively across media, leadership, nonprofit, and public settings. I enjoy studying theology, communication strategy, leadership, public policy, and the ways media shapes culture and public discourse.

Outside of work, I enjoy photography, technology, podcast production, writing, pickleball, exploring new coffee shops, and spending time with friends and family. I have always been naturally curious and enjoy learning about everything from theology and leadership to branding, politics, communications, and entrepreneurship. That curiosity continues to shape both my professional work and my personal growth.

As someone who has been involved in public service, nonprofit leadership, business, media, and community engagement, I have learned that no single title fully defines who a person is. Instead, I hope to be known for faithfully serving others, communicating with integrity, building meaningful relationships, and leaving every community better than I found it.
